Are you really a
Green Gardener when
it comes to weeding?

What's really in Roundup -
world's leading weed killer?
It's described as it's 'inert' after a few weeks. The dictionary describes that as 'chemically inactive'. Monsanto advertised it could be used 'where pets and kids play' and it 'breaks down into natural materials when its work is done'. New York fined Monsanto $50,000 for that statement and made them promise it would never again state their product was safe.
Product warnings also include 'avoid spraying it on water that contains fish and other aquatic life.'
Yet all the residue that is indiscriminately sprayed directly or drifted onto the ground eventually drains off into lakes and riversor leaches into our aquifers. Your drinking water. According to Californians for Alternatives to Toxics, weed killing sprays residues contain varying amounts of:
glyphosate
polyethoxethyleneamine
isopropylamine (the other remaining 81.27% of ingredients are withheld as 'trade secrets'.
(these ingredients are printed next to the recommendation you use a shield to protect your good plants)!
Toxicology—breakdown products and effects of and/or exposure to these chemicals also include:
skin and severe eye irritation (see link below)
inhibits enzymes involved in the detoxification of the body
formaldehyde - known carcinogen also responsible for gene mutations is also a reproductive toxicant
nitrosoglyphosate contaminant of a chemical family with carcinogens
changes in kidney, liver, and animal thymus functions
polyethoxethyleneamine irritates skin, causes gastrointestinal problems. POEA is contaminated during the manufacturing process with 1,4 dioxane, a probable human carcinogen
in animal tests glyphosate and POEA mixtures have caused cardiac arrest
isopropylamine is extrememly destructive to tissue of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract.
Environmental fate and effects:
Glyphosate's formaldehyde is listed as a toxic air contaminant.
Ground spray overspray drift effects plants as far as 131 feet away.
Residues have been detected 1,300 feet from use area.
Glyphosate has been found in surface water as a result of agricultural run-off and in ground water
Glyphosate-based sprays are all highly toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.
Glyphosate inhibits growth of mycorrhizal fungi essential to ecosystems that enhance plant survival
Labs contracted by manufacturer for toxicological analysis on glyphosate have been documented as falsifying test data for the US Congress.

If it's inert, why would a lab do that?
